2014 offseason: Lee agrees to terms on rookie contract

Jaguars reach deal with rookie second-round WR Marqise Lee.


JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars’ final rookie deal is now officially done.

Marqise Lee agreed to terms on his rookie contract with the Jaguars Wednesday afternoon, and later this week will become the last of the team’s 2014 NFL Draft selections to sign with the team. Lee plans to sign the contract Friday.

Lee, a wide receiver from the University of Southern California, agreed to terms eight days before the Jaguars are scheduled to report for 2014 Training Camp. Rookies are scheduled to report July 21, veteran players are scheduled to report July 24 and the first training camp practice is scheduled for the following day.


Details of the contract were not released. All rookies except for first-round selections sign four-year contracts.

Lee, a three-year starter at Southern Cal, declared for the draft following his junior season, having caught 248 passes in three seasons for 3,655 yards and 29 touchdowns. He won the Biletnikoff Award for the nation’s top receiver as a sophomore, a year in which he also was the Pac 12 Offensive Player of the Year, a unanimous All-America selection and a Pac 12 All-Conference first-team selection.

Lee started all 13 games as a sophomore, catching 118 passes for 1,721 yards and 14 touchdowns. He started 11 games as a junior, and with quarterback Matt Barkley having departed for the NFL the previous offseason, he caught 57 passes for 791 yards and four touchdowns.

The Jaguars earlier in the offseason signed first-round quarterback Blake Bortles (Central Florida), second-round wide receiver Allen Robinson (Penn State), third-round guard Brandon Linder (Miami), fourth-round cornerback Aaron Colvin (Oklahoma), fifth-round linebacker Telvin Smith (Florida State), fifth-round defensive end Chris Smith (Arkansas), sixth-round center Luke Bowanko (Virginia) and seventh-round running back Storm Johnson (Central Florida).
