Jaguars preseason opponents set

Posted Apr 9, 2014

Jaguars to play four NFC opponents in 2014 preseason, with one game on national television scheduled against the Chicago Bears.

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars will spend a night in August on the national stage.

That was perhaps the most noteworthy takeaway from the Jaguars’ four-game 2014 preseason schedule, which was announced Wednesday afternoon by the NFL along with the preseason schedule for all 32 of the league’s franchises.

The Jaguars’ preseason schedule includes four games against NFC opponents, including a pair of road games against teams from the NFC North.

That includes a game against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago at 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 14. That is the Jaguars’ Week 2 preseason game and will be televised on ESPN.

The Jaguars will open the preseason with a home game at EverBank Field against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFC South, and after visiting the Bears they will play the Detroit Lions of the NFC North at Ford Field in Detroit in Preseason Week 3.

The Jaguars will close the preseason with a home game against the Atlanta Falcons of the NFC South.

Dates and times for Preseason Weeks 1, 3 and 4 will be announced at a later date. The lone dates and times announced by the NFL on Wednesday were those that involved nationally televised games.

None of the Jaguars’ four preseason opponents qualified for the postseason last year, with the Bears finishing 8-8, the Lions finishing 7-9 and the Falcons and Buccaneers finishing 4-12.

The Lions will enter the preseason with a new head coach – former Indianapolis Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell – while the preseason opener will mark the Buccaneers debut of Head Coach Lovie Smith, formerly the head coach of the Bears.

The Jaguars went 1-3 last preseason.

The NFL’s regular-season schedule is typically announced in mid-April.
