Jaguars select Sanders in Round 4

Jacksonville Jaguars select South Carolina WR Ace Sanders in fourth round of 2013 NFL Draft

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars have selected Ace Sanders in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Sanders, a wide receiver from South Carolina, was the fourth selection of the fourth round and the fourth selection of the draft’s final day. He was the 101st overall selection.

Sanders (5-feet-8, 175 pounds) was a punt returner/wide receiver at South Carolina, and was the co-SEC Special Teams Player of the Year last season.

He was a first-team All-SEC return specialist.

There were reports early in the day and shortly before the selection that the Jaguars were listening to offers to trade down. Jaguars General Manager David Caldwell had said before the draft he would be interested in trading down during the draft to add selections.

Those turned out to be correct, as the Jaguars traded the No. 1 selection of Round 4 – the 98th overall – to Philadelphia for the 101st selection and the 210th selection – the latter of which is a seventh-rounder.

Caldwell said he had received comparatively few calls from teams looking to trade for the No. 2 overall selection in the first round and the No. 1 overall selection in the second.

The Jaguars had used the No. 2 selection on Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel, then selected safety Johnathan Cyprien from Florida International with the first selection of the second round. The Jaguars selected University of Connecticut cornerback Dwayne Gratz with the second selection in Round 3.
