Jaguars sign Ebert, release Pendleton

Posted May 22, 2013

Jacksonville Jaguars sign WR Jeremy Ebert and release second-year DT Jeris Pendleton

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars have added depth at the receiver position.

At the same time, the team made a move to reduce the numbers along the defensive line.

Jeremy Ebert, a seventh-round selection by the New England Patriots in the 2012 NFL Draft, signed with the Jaguars on Wednesday afternoon. The team also released second-year defensive tackle Jeris Pendleton.

Ebert (6-feet-0, 195 pounds) also spent time on the Eagles’ practice squad last season. He re-signed with the Patriots on Jan. 21, 2013 before being waived April 29.

Ebert, who played collegiately at Northwestern, started 32 of 49 games in college, started his final 23 games and registered 173 career receptions for 2,400 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also led the team in receiving his final two seasons, including 1,060 yards on 75 catches and 11 touchdowns as a senior.

The signing of Ebert gives the Jaguars 11 receivers on the 90-man roster: Cecil Shorts, Justin Blackmon, Jordan Shipley, Mohamed Massaquoi, Taylor Price, Mike Brown, Toney Clemons, Ebert and rookies Ace Sanders, Tobais Palmer and Jamal Miles.

Pendleton, 30, a seventh-round selection by the Jaguars in the 2012 NFL Draft, was released as the Jaguars continue to make moves along the defensive line.

The team claimed defensive tackle Kyle Love and defensive end Brandon Deaderick off waivers from the Patriots last week, and the Jaguars also have signed tackles Sen’Derrick Marks and Roy Miller as unrestricted free agents this offseason.

The team now has 16 defensive linemen on the roster, including 10 ends – Tyson Alualu, Jason Babin, Deaderick, Jeremy Mincey, Andre Branch, Austen Lane, Ryan Davis and rookies J.D. Griggs, Paul Hazel and Pannel Egboh. The six tackles are Marks, Love, Roy Miller, D’Anthony Smith and rookies T.J. Barnes and Abry Jones.
