Poz on Team Sanders

Posted Jan 22, 2014

Jaguars middle linebacker Paul Posluszny to play for Team Sanders in first Pro Bowl appearance on Sunday in Honolulu, Hawaii.

JACKSONVILLE – Poz made it to the Pro Bowl early this week. Now, he’s in prime time.

He’s playing for Prime Time, anyway.

Paul Posluszny, the Jaguars’ starting middle linebacker who earlier this week was named to the Pro Bowl as an alternate, on Wednesday night was assigned to Team Sanders.

That means he will play for the team selected by Hall of Fame cornerback and NFL Network analyst Deion Sanders.

Sanders and Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice are serving as captains and general managers for the 2014 Pro Bowl, which will be played at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Sunday, January 26. Sanders and Rice serving as captains and GMs is part of a new Pro Bowl format implemented this season.

Players were chosen in previous years to play on teams representing each conference.

Rice and Sanders selected interior linemen, punters, fullbacks and special teams players first, with those 22 selections announced on a tape-delayed broadcast Tuesday on the NFL Network. The more high-profile positions were selected live on the NFL Network Wednesday.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano will coach Team Sanders, with Carolina Panthers Head Coach Ron Rivera coaching Team Rice.

Posluszny, a seven-year veteran, was added to the Pro Bowl this week along with Derrick Johnson of Kansas City after San Fransico 49ers linebackers NaVorro Bowman and Patrick Willis withdrew from the game.

Posluszny led the Jaguars with 161 tackles, including 121 solos, with three sacks, two interceptions, 10 passes defensed, six tackles for losses and seven quarterback pressures, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He started 15 of 16 games.
