Week 1 depth chart: Denard Robinson the backup RB, LB LaRoy Reynolds starting

Posted Sep 2, 2014

Running back Denard Robinson the backup on Jaguars 2014 Week 1 depth chart, with LaRoy Reynolds the starting Otto linebacker.

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars’ Week 1 unofficial depth chart is out.

Unsurprisingly, there are few surprises.

With most position battles long since decided, and with Head Coach Gus Bradley announcing on Monday that Jacques McClendon will start at center in Sunday’s regular-season opener, the Jaguars’ Week 1 regular-season depth chart mostly confirmed what was already known.

One notable position: running back, where Denard Robinson – a second-year veteran – is the backup behind Toby Gerhart. Robinson had been competing with Jordan Todman and rookie Storm Johnson for the backup role in training camp.

Another notable position: Otto linebacker, where second-year veteran LaRoy Reynolds continues to be listed as the starter ahead of veteran Dekoda Watson, an offseason free-agent signee who missed much of training camp with a sports hernia injury.

McClendon is listed as the starter at center, with Luke Joeckel at left tackle, Zane Beadles at left guard, rookie Brandon Linder at right guard and Cameron Bradfield at right tackle. McClendon is backing up Beadles at left guard with rookie Luke Bowanko listed as second-team center. The other backups are rookie Josh Wells (left tackle), rookie Tyler Shatley (right guard) and Sam Young (right tackle). Austin Pasztor, the usual starting right tackle, is out with a hand injury.

Because Shatley may not be active on game days, McClendon likely would move to guard if Beadles or Linder are unavailable with Bowanko moving to center. Young likely will be active on Sunday to back-up the tackles.

Also of note: wide receiver Mike Brown is listed as the top punt returner with cornerback Will Blackmon second on the depth chart.

The rest of the depth chart:

*Wide receiver: Cecil Shorts III and rookie Marqise Lee starting, with rookies Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns the backups and Brown third team. Because Brown is the punt returner, look for the Jaguars to have five receivers active Sunday.

*Tight end: Marcedes Lewis starting with Clay Harbor the backup and Mickey Shuler third team. Harbor is expected to be out with a calf injury Sunday.

*Quarterback: Chad Henne starting with Blake Bortles the backup.

*Running back: Gerhart starting with Robinson the backup, Todman third team and Johnson next.

*Fullback: Will Ta'ufo'ou.

*Left defensive end: Red Bryant starting with Tyson Alualu the backup.

*Defensive tackle: Roy Miller and Sen’Derrick Marks the starters, with Abry Jones and Ziggy Hood the backups.

*Leo: Chris Clemons starting followed by Andre Branch, Ryan Davis and rookie Chris Smith.

*Weakside linebacker: Geno Hayes starting with rookie Telvin Smith the backup. Smith will play in the nickel package.

*Middle linebacker: Paul Posluszny starting with J.T. Thomas the backup.

*Otto linebacker: Reynolds starting with Watson the backup.

*Left cornerback: Dwayne Gratz starting with Will Blackmon the backup and nickel back and Jeremy Harris next.

*Right cornerback: Alan Ball starting with Demetrius McCray the backup.

*Strong safety: Johnathan Cyprien starting with Josh Evans the backup.

*Free safety: Winston Guy Jr. starting with Chris Prosinski the backup.

Todman is listed as the starting kickoff returner, with Denard Robinson after that.
